Frequently Asked Questions

The information below should answer most questions you have. If you need anything else, please let us know

What is the cost?

If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan (which is a referral from a GP), there is a gap of $100 per session.

Our session fees are:

  • $229.55 with a clinical psychologist. Medicare rebate is $129.55.

  • $188.25 with a general psychologist. Medicare rebate is $88.25.

If you're claiming via Private Health Insurance, your psychologist will send you an email with your receipt attached for claiming. You will be charged following your allocated session times.

Where and how will I have my psychology sessions?

You will have your session using an online platform called Zoom which allows people to have secure and private meetings over the internet.  Please follow these simple instructions to initiate your psychology session:

  • Step 1: You'll receive an invitation from your psychologist in your email just prior to the start time of your appointment.

  • Step 2: Open the email and click on the meeting link.

  • Step 3: You'll automatically be taken to the meeting using Zoom.

Can I receive Medicare rebates for my sessions?

Yes. All Australians are now eligible to receive Medicare rebates for 20 sessions with a psychologist through telehealth, every year.

How do I get a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP)?

You’ll need to book an appointment with a GP so that they can organise a MHCP for you. Your GP may ask for a few details of you, including:

  • The name of your psychologist

  • The name of your psychologist’s practice: Online Psychologists Australia

  • Address of the practice (even though the sessions are online): 99 Wattletree Road, Armadale, 3143, VIC

  • The fax number: 03 5947 5074

What do I do with my Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP)?

If you can receive a MHCP, please ask your GP's admin to send it either by fax to 03 5947 5074 or email (, prior to your appointment. Alternatively, please send us a scanned copy.

How do I get my Medicare rebate?

Your psychologist will process your Medicare rebate for you after your session. Medicare then sends the funds into the bank account which you have linked to your Medicare number—this is usually done by Medicare within 24 hours.

Do I need to prepare anything for my first session in terms of what I want to speak about?

Not really. It can be helpful to come with broad ideas about what’s happening, but most people aren’t sure why they’re struggling with something, or there are so many things going on that it’s hard to make sense of it all! Don’t worry about that, it’s the job of a psychologist to help you make sense of what’s going on for you and to help put together an excellent map of your challenges and how to make things better.
